WB delegation lauds Ethiopian government's economic management

Addis Ababa, February 17, 2008 (Addis Ababa) - The cooperation between Ethiopia and the World Bank (WB) has been incredibly successful, the delegation of executive directors of the bank said. The delegation here on Sunday held talks with Prime Minister Meles Zenawi.

Briefing journalists after the discussion, head of the delegation and Executive Director of the bank Giovani Majnoni appreciated the economic management of the Ethiopian government. The director described it as “Brilliant economic management of the Ethiopian government.”


The director said "Ethiopia definitely has a success story. And the bank will try to do whatever it can to help this success continue."


According to the director, the bank has been the major supporter in Ethiopia's development endeavors in various sectors.


The bank and Ethiopia have a long successful bilateral relations he said, and recalled that Ethiopia is one of the founding members of the bank.


"This time Ethiopia represents one of the 24 executive directors of the bank. I'm very hopeful that this strengthens the links again" .


He said the delegation discussed on ways of further enhancing the cooperation between Ethiopia and the bank . The discussion also focused on how to improve and make faster the delivery of the bank’s service.


Minister of Finance and Economic Development Sofian Ahmed, who attended the discussion, told journalist that the delegation lauded the economic development Ethiopia has registered during the past four consecutive years.


Sofian said during the discussion it is indicated that Ethiopia is in need of additional loans to further accelerate the ongoing development activities.


The delegation in its two days stay here will hold discussions with senior officials of the Ministry of Finance and Economic Development.


It would also visit development activities in Amhara Region.
