The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia deeply regrets the murder, last Saturday, of two leading Somali journalists. Ali Iman Sharmake was the owner of HornAfrik, one of the leading media organizations in Somalia, and Mahad Ahmed Elmi hosted a popular radio talk show for HornAfrik.
These deliberate assassinations, the work of extremists, underline the pressures that journalists in Mogadishu are now facing. They paid the ultimate price for failing to report the way the extremists wanted.
The loss of two such prominent, reliable and above all responsible journalists, whose neutrality was well-known, is deeply regretted.
